Plumbers – What Do They Do?
Plumbers install and repair pipes that carry water, sewage and waste. Their work can include removing old pipes and fittings, making trenches to lay new pipe and connecting fixtures like toilets, sinks, showers and bathtubs. They must be able to identify and troubleshoot a wide variety of problems, such as leaks, clogs and noisy pipes. They often must make emergency repairs at night or on weekends. They also need to have stamina for physically challenging work and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
Why you should hire a plumber?
Many plumbers in buffalo have apprenticeships that last for 4-5 years and combine classroom learning with on-the-job training. Others attend technical schools and take courses in plumbing system design, tool use, safety and welding. After completing an apprenticeship, plumbers must pass an exam to earn their journeyman license. A licensed plumber will have a higher standard of work and will be insured in case of injury.
When hiring a plumber, ask for proof of insurance and licensing. Check their website for photos of completed jobs and customer reviews. Ask if they offer free estimates and what their labor rate is. Also, find out if they charge for travel time and materials.
Hiring a plumber is an important decision and it’s worth taking the time to carefully vet each candidate. A few extra minutes can save you a lot of money in the long run. For example, a small leaky faucet could cost you 3,000 gallons of water per year or a hot water tank that’s crusted with scale can be expensive to replace.
