How to Get a Career in Sports Broadcasting
Whether it’s on television, 로얄티비 or online, sports media has become pervasive in our daily lives. Professional athletes have reached celebrity status and the popularity of sports video games has skyrocketed. The demand for sports information has never been higher, making it a perfect time to pursue a career in Sports Broadcasting.
However, getting a job in the field requires much more than just a degree in broadcast journalism or communication studies with a concentration in sports media. A successful career requires the right combination of education, experience and passion to succeed.
The Science of Sound: Audio Engineering in Sports Broadcasts
The primary responsibility of a sports broadcaster is to provide live commentary during sporting events. This involves describing the action on the field or court, sharing relevant statistics and providing analysis of player performances. A broadcaster must also have a strong command of the language and be able to convey excitement and energy on air.
Studio Hosts
Studio hosts anchor pre-game, halftime and post-game shows from a studio setting. They introduce and facilitate discussions with analysts, former players and experts, while guiding the overall flow of the program. In addition, they must be able to collaborate effectively with the production team in order to coordinate camera angles, replays and graphics.
Aspiring sports broadcasters can get a leg up on the competition by attending a pre-college summer program. These two-week programs are held on college campuses and allow students to practice their play-by-play skills, create a professional reel, tour a stadium and attend lectures presented by professionals in the industry. They may even be able to earn college credit.
